School Update
To the students and families of LRD,
We want to begin this week’s update by sharing our appreciation with all families who were able to join us for our virtual “Meet the Teacher” evening last night. We truly value opportunities like these to connect with our families and recognize the importance of maintaining strong, open lines of communication between home and school. Thank you for taking the time to connect with our teachers and learn more about the year ahead.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Google Classroom | Homework
A “Welcome to Google Classroom” information sheet was sent home today with students. This sheet provides information about how to join your child’s Google Classroom, how to access Google Classroom on a mobile device, and an explanation of TLC Homework. Student passwords have now been reset, and a label with your child’s EDU account and password has been included on the form. Your child’s EDU account can also be found through your MyCBE Account by clicking “Grades & Attendance.” The email address associated with your child’s EDU account is in the top right corner of the page.
We encourage families to try logging into Google Classroom to ensure you are able to access your child’s classroom. If you experience any difficulties logging in, please reach out to leroidaniels@cbe.ab.ca so that we can provide assistance. Weekly homework will begin within the next two weeks, and more information will be shared by your child’s teacher.
In the meantime, for families interested in supporting learning at home, here are some simple suggestions:
- Daily reading: Read independently, read aloud to an adult, or have an adult read to your child. Talk about favorite parts, characters, predictions, or new words.
- Math facts and number sense: Practice addition and subtraction facts, skip counting, mental math, or multiplication for older students. Dice and card games are also great options.
- Everyday math: Count change, measure ingredients while cooking, compare prices at the grocery store, tell time, estimate distances, or measure objects around the house.
- Writing for a purpose: Write a grocery list, thank you note, journal entry, weekend recap, instructions for a game, or a letter to a family member.
- Spelling and vocabulary: Practice words orally, use them in sentences, find them while reading, or play word games.
Healthy Hunger
We know many families are looking forward to the return of Healthy Hunger! Dates will be shared as soon as possible, and we are working to align our dates with Fairview School as much as possible, recognizing that many of our families have students in both buildings. More information will be coming soon, and we anticipate our first Healthy Hunger date will take place in October.
Lunch Request
We are asking families to please ensure students come to school with any utensils they may need to eat their lunch. We have also noticed that some students are eating a significant portion of their lunch during morning recess snack. We encourage families to check in with their child, as additional food may need to be sent to ensure they have enough for both snack and lunch throughout the day.
School Photos
School photo days are coming up! Please see the important dates below:

- Tuesday, September 15: Individual and group photos for our Tuesday/Thursday Kindergarten students.
