Weekly Update October 30 - November 3
Dear Parents,
We survived the first week of snow! We are looking forward to the warmer weather next week and would like to remind you to please ensure your children are dressed for any weather situation. We know it can change quickly in Calgary. J
Next week is very busy with LOTS of excitement. Please take a moment to look at all the updates and reminders below so you and your children don’t miss anything.
- Monday – the Grade 2’s in Rm 14, 15, 16 are hosting an assembly for RESPONSIBILITY at 1:30pm and parents are invited to attend. We look forward to seeing this great presentation.
- Special treat to showcase student responsibility….the students have been learning a rhythm and pattern song in music inspired by the dum dum lollipops. As the entire school will be performing this song (and have been practicing since September), school council has generously bought each child a dum dum lollipop and each child is RESPONSIBLE to bring it home! Students are not allowed to eat them at school or on the bus so please be sure to check your child’s backpack Monday night to ensure they were responsible and it came home. Thank you to school council for this special treat. (T/Th Kindie will get them on Tuesday)
- Winter weather and bussing – as some of you have experienced, there are delays with bussing due to absent drivers or extreme road conditions. It is important to please have your children ready for their regular pickup time for the bus even if there is a posted delay. In the event that First Student finds a sub –driver, the delay could be removed or changed and bussing will run as usual and we always want your child to be at school on time J
- Fun Lunches – we know that many students and families have dietary restrictions and preferences. It is important for you to read the ingredients listed for the food items you order online to ensure they are safe for your child to eat as the school or school council does not monitor this. We provide your children whatever you have ordered and anticipate that you have checked your orders for dietary preferences. Thank you
- Along with dietary restrictions – we are noticing many students coming to school with peanut butter and Nutella snacks and sandwiches. Please remember we are a nut-aware school and neither of these food items should be coming to school! Thank you for keeping everyone safe.
- Cheque Writing Campaign – thank you to those who have sent in their donation already! Please remember to send in your donation along with your form by Tuesday, Oct 31. The class who raises the most will receive a special treat J
- CASINO – we are still in desperate need of more volunteers for our Casino on November 13 &14. If you are over 18 and able to help with this event it would be greatly appreciated. For those people who attend their shift, they will receive preferential seating at our Spring production in April. Ask your aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends if they are able to help J

- HALLOWEEN – This is an all day fun activity day for students! If you and your family do not celebrate Halloween, we understand if you would like to keep your children home for this day. If they do come, we will do our best to provide them alternative activities and tasks while the class participates in Halloween activities. ALL students ( M/W and T/Th Kindergarten students should be attending school on Oct 31) are invited to wear their Halloween costumes in the morning when they arrive at school. They will not be able to change at school. Please remember we have young students and scary, bloody or gory costumes should not be worn to school. If your costume has any kind of weaponry (play guns, swords, light saber etc) please leave those items at home for both safety and so they don’t get lost at school before trick or treating in the evening. Students will get to “show off” their costumes during our Halloween Parade in the gym at 12:30pm. Please see your child’s Google Classroom for more information about activities that may be happening in the classroom during this day. Parents are invited to come if you are interested. We hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween!
Hope you have a great weekend!
Sincerely, Andrea Taylor - Principal @ Le Roi Daniels
