Dear Parents,

I hope that everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather last weekend as you celebrated Thanksgiving!  It is hard to believe that we are already more than ½ way through October and the days continue to fly by.  We had a very busy couple of weeks with field trips and the rest of October is also full of many exciting activities.  Please be sure to read below so you don’t miss anything.

  1. Fun Lunch – as a reminder, if you are wanting your child to participate in the Fun  Lunch on Wednesday Oct 23, please be sure to place your order on Healthy Hunger BEFORE midnight Friday.  Please remember, T/Th Kindergarten students should not order this lunch and we are unable to accept SKIP/Door Dash or Uber Eats on Fun Lunch days so please order through Healthy Hunger if you want your child to have a “fun lunch”.   If your child is absent on Wednesday and you have ordered a fun lunch, it will be donated to staff unless you call prior to 10am on Wednesday to make arrangements to pick it up. Thank you
  2. Thank you so much to the few families who have generously donated to our Cheque Writing Campaign.  We have unfortunately raised less than $500 [which] is clearly not even close to our $10,000 goal.  Your donations will go a long way towards helping our School Council support and supplement the many field trips, performances and activities at the school and therefore we are extending the fundraiser until Oct 31.  Please be sure to send in your donation via cash or cheque this next week.  Reminder – the class who raises the most will get a pizza party!   Thank you for supporting School Council.
  3. PHOTO RETAKES – will be occurring on Monday October 21 and October 22 (for T/Th Kindie students).  If your child was away on the original photo day (Sept 16/17) or you require retakes to be done, please ensure you email your child’s teacher BEFORE midnight on Sunday.  If your child’s teacher does not receive an email requesting a retake, unfortunately your child will not have their photo taken.   Please ensure your child is in FORMAL uniform on Monday as usual and Tues for our Kindie students.
  4. Parent Teacher Conferences this week – please be sure to book a time to meet with your child’s teacher.  Times and schedules can be found on your MyCBE account under the “book and manage times” tab.  Conferences will run all day on Thursday for Kindergarten students, 3:30 – 8pm for all students and Friday 10 -12 for all students.  This is an important time to meet and discuss your child’s learning and progress with your teachers so please be sure to attend.   As a reminder – this is a school event so we are asking parents to please NOT come under the influence (or smelling of) alcohol or marijuana to show respect to the other students and families in the building.   Thank you.
  5. NO SCHOOL for Kindergarten students on Thursday and NO SCHOOL for all students on Friday due to Parent – Teacher conferences.
  6. Scholastic Book Fair is coming! – During our conference week, students have the opportunity to browse and purchase new books from Scholastic.  Students will have an opportunity to browse the book fair on Tuesday & Wednesday next week, with the chance to bring cash for purchasing on Thursday.  Kindergarten students will only purchase during their conference times with parents. The book fair will also be open on Thursday and Friday during conferences for parents to come and make purchases as well.
  7. Uniform purchases – as per the contract with CBE, McCarthy’s can only sell uniform items during designated times of the year.  Please see the attached information if you require additional uniform pieces.    2024 CBE Uniform Purchasing Windows.pdf
  8. RESPONSIBILITY ASSEMBLY hosted by Grade 2s in rooms 14,15,16 on Monday Oct 28 @ 1:30pm.  Parents are invited and should be here by 1:20 if you are planning on attending :)
  9. Speaking of Responsibility – we have had a few students bringing “nuts or nut products” to school.  We would like to remind you that nuts and nut products should not come to school as we do have severe allergies in the school and we want to keep everyone safe.  Please ensure you help your child show responsibility by not sending nut items to school (this includes Nutella!)  If you are using WOW butter, please email your child’s teacher so there is no confusion.  Thank you.
  10. FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT – School council is hosting their annual family movie night here at the school on Thursday November 7 at 6:30PM.  They will be watching INSIDE OUT 2. There will [be] more details coming home on Monday Oct 28 but please mark your calendar as there are only 350 tickets available and is on a first come- first serve basis.  You will be able to order your tickets, snacks and drinks on Healthy Hunger starting at 8am on Tuesday Oct 29 and will close as soon 350 tickets have been sold.  Each person attending, over the age of 2, will need their own ticket.  We will also be needing some parent volunteers for this event.  If you are able to commit and support this event, please complete the attached link.  Volunteers who complete their shift will receive preferential seating at our 101 Dalmatian play in January!!

  1. HALLOWEEN PARADE on Oct 31 - This is an all day fun activity day for students!  If you and your family do not celebrate Halloween, we understand if you would like to keep your children home for this day.  If they do come, we will do our best to provide them alternative activities and tasks while the class participates in Halloween activities.  ALL students, including both M/W and T/Th Kindergarten classes, are invited to wear their Halloween costumes in the morning when they arrive at school.  They will not be able to change at school.  Please remember we have young students and scary, bloody or gory costumes should not be worn to school.  If your costume has any kind of weaponry,  (play guns, swords, light saber etc.) please leave those items at home for both safety and so they don’t get lost at school before trick or treating in the evening.  Students will get to “show off” their costumes during our Halloween Parade in the gym at 11am.  Please see your child’s Google Classroom for more information about activities that may be happening in the classroom during this day.  Parents are invited to attend the parade if you are interested.  We hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween!
  2. Diwali -  As the celebration of Diwali starts on Halloween and ends the morning of November 1, we are inviting students who formally celebrate Diwali as part of the cultural and religious beliefs to wear their fancy formal celebratory clothing on Friday November 1.  This is NOT A CASUAL DAY and therefore students should not be coming in jeans but rather in their formal attire.  Students who do not celebrate this holiday should be wearing their uniform.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the beautiful fall colours!

Sincerely,

Andrea Taylor - Principal @ Le Roi Daniels
