Dear Parents,

I hope you are surviving this brutal week of freezing weather!  I know the students are very much looking forward to being able to go outside for lunch recess again soon!  Please take a moment to read some important message below.

  1. Thank you so much to all those parents who ensured their students had their snowpants and winter gear in anticipation of snowshoeing yesterday.  Unfortunately, it did not warm up enough until the afternoon so students could not try snowshoeing yesterday.  We are looking forward to other opportunities to try it so please ensure that your children come everyday during the months of February and March with all of their winter gear in anticipation of having PE outside.  Whenever the weather allows, Mrs. Ghertsos will be taking them out to enjoy this winter sport. :)
  2. Reminder that School Council is hosting a Family Dance on Feb 27.  You must pre-order your tickets on Healthy Hunger starting Feb 18.  There are limited tickets so please don’t hesitate in placing your order to ensure your family can participate in this fun evening. School Council is still looking for volunteers for this event so if you are able to help, please sign up using the link below.  Thank you so much.
  3. School Council is on Tuesday February 18 at 6:30pm online.  If you are interested in attending this meeting, please email adtaylor@cbe.ab.ca before 8am on the [February ] 18 to receive the meeting link.  Parents who have participated in the past will automatically receive the link.  During this meeting, Mrs. Taylor will be sharing some updates regarding our current security system/cameras for your information.
  4. Thank you so those families who have already completed the survey from last week.  If you did not get a chance to share your thoughts regarding our School Development Plan as we plan for next year, please take a moment to look at the presentation and complete the survey (link below).   The survey will close on Feb 12 and results will be shared on Feb 21. It should only take 5-10  minutes of your time and your feedback is greatly appreciated.   2025 planning Presentation.pdf

  1. As we have all experienced driving around Calgary in the past few weeks, there is lots of ICE everywhere.  We have been receiving many calls regarding ice in the school field, playgrounds and front green space.  Although I appreciate everyone’s concerns and suggestions, I wanted to share that we are doing everything we can to ensure students are safe while outside but unfortunately EVERY school in Alberta is experiencing slippery compounds, fields and playgrounds.  Students are reminded daily to travel slowly, watch where they are walking and be careful when outside.  Schools are not allowed to add salt, gravel or de-icer to the field areas or playground spaces as it ruins the grass for the city as well as drains into our water system.  We thank you for understanding and ask that you also please remind your students to walk carefully in icy conditions.  This would also include using the crosswalks during drop off and pick up times.  We have seen a huge increase in j-walking this week in front of the school which is extremely unsafe as cars may not be able stop quickly with icy roads.  Please always choose SAFETY [over] convenience.  Thank you.
  2. Valentine’s Celebrations – please see your child’s Google Classroom page for information regarding any Valentine’s Celebrations and activities that may be happening next week.  Students are invited to wear pink, purple, red and white on Wednesday Feb 12 for a CASUAL day in celebration of Valentine’s Day.
  3. Reminder – if you have not yet printed your child’s report card, please ensure you do so as it will only be available for viewing for another week.
  4. Finally, just a reminder that there is no school for students on Feb 13 & 14 as all staff are participating in Convention and Feb 17 is Family day so we hope that everyone is able to enjoy their extra long weekend!

As always, we hope you have an amazing weekend and try to stay warm!!

Sincerely,

Andrea Taylor – Principal @ Le Roi Daniels
