Sept 8 Updates
Dear Parents,
Well it has been a very busy first week and the children have already started to learn so much! Please take a moment to read the many updates that are attached in this email to ensure you continue to stay in the loop of what is happening at Le Roi Daniels.
1) We had our first firedrill and lockdown practice this week. All of the students did a wonderful job of following directions, listening to the adults and doing everything they needed to, to keep everyone safe. CPS was very impressed with how quickly and quietly everyone completed the lockdown practice!
2) Homework is beginning this week! As part of the TLC program, students and parents have committed to completing the weekly homework and submitting it online, on time. Please be sure to go to your child’s Google Classroom to find the homework which will be posted each Sunday and due on the following Friday.
3) SCHOOL FEES are DUE – As we already have many fieldtrips happening this month, it is important for all families to please go onto your CBE Account, find school fees, click on all field trip fees for your grade, add them to your cart and pay it in full with your Credit Card. We are asking you to please all of these school fees BEFORE the end of September as we have already started booking and paying for many of these events. There are no waivers for these fees. Thank you for clearing these fees ASAP. Transportation and Noon Supervision fees will posted to your account as well and can be paid monthly if you wish.
4) If you have not completed the welcome back package forms or the forms online, please be sure to complete them and send them to the school on Monday. Please also complete the online forms in your School Account.
5) As routines are starting to become more established, I would like to remind of some important expectations to help your children be successful:
- Ensure that all your children’s items are labelled.
- Please ensure they have their INDOOR shoes (either black runners or black dress shoes AND runners) here at the school by Monday. These shoes remain at school and will not be worn to and from school.
- Send your child both a SNACK and LUNCH each day along with all required UTENSILS.
- Please double check uniform requirements and make sure your child is wearing the correct items. ALL students need to be in FORMAL uniform on Mondays (Tuesday for the T/Th Kindergartens), which includes: White collared DRESS shirt (not golf shirt), Tartan dress OR navy twill dress pants and tartan tie, LONG SLEEVED green TLC cardigan, and NAVY tights or socks. When a class earns 10 perfect uniform Mondays, they get ice cream. Please make sure your child is in perfect formal uniforms on Mondays.
6) Fun Lunches are coming! Our first fun lunch is Thursday Sept 28 and is being provided by Subway. You MUST create a Healthy Hunger Account to access this service. Please see the attached link to see how to create an account. How to make a Healthy hunger account.docx
This needs to be done each year as you have a new teacher J Only students in T/Th Kindergarten classes should order this fun lunch as it arrives on Thursday Sept 28 for students. All orders must be complete before midnight on Saturday Sept 23 – late orders will not be accepted. If you do not participate in this activity or miss the deadline, please send your child a lunch as usual – we are unable to accept any food deliveries (Skip, door dash etc) due to the business of lunch time. Thank you for your understanding.
7) The Terry Fox Run for students is on Friday September 15. We have participated in this event for many years and look forward to working together to learn and understand the amazing character traits Terry demonstrated during his life and run. Students will be able to dress casual on Sept. 15 for this event. This means they can wear anything they want (jeans, dresses, shorts, leggings etc) and we will be walking/running as a school outside for Cancer Research awareness and support. Students are encouraged to bring in a Toonie for Terry (you are welcome to send more if you wish) and all funds will be donated to the Terry Fox Research Institute in hopes of finding a cure for cancer. Students will also be provided with water and fruit leather on behalf of school council. If you would like to donate $20 or more and receive a tax receipt please go to the link provided. https://schools.terryfox.ca/LeRoiDaniels.
8) School Council is able to support our school in many ways, including buses for field trips, school experiences such as Quest Theatre performances, PE residencies and snacks for events such as Terry Fox and Ice Cream Social! All of this support takes financial commitments and we are hoping you can help. We are very fortunate to participate in the AGLC Casino project where we receive the profits (up to $80,000) from a casino approximately every 18 months but it doesn’t come for free! We need your help…. We have our casino on November 13 & 14 and we need volunteers. There is no experience required, no police clearance needed, we just need people who want to come and help our children. Please see the attached link to sign up for a volunteer time and position.

If you are unsure, or have more questions, please plan to join us at our School Council meeting on Tuesday Sept 19 at 6pm in the Learning Commons at the school. As an extra incentive….any person who attends their volunteer shift at the casino will also be given priority seating at our school concert at First Alliance Church for the 2023/24 school year AND 2024/25 school year.
Thank you for your commitment to our school and volunteering for this important event.
I know this was a lot of information and I promise they will not always be this long but there are many information items for you and your families as the school year is beginning. Thank you again for choosing Le Roi Daniels and have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Andrea Taylor – Principal @ Le Roi Daniels
