Sept 28 Updates

Hello everyone,

As tomorrow is a holiday, I am sending you the updates a day early.  We hope you can take some time tomorrow to remember and reflect on the tragedies that occurred through residential schools while focusing on what we have learned from these situations....every child is unique, important and entitled to honor and celebrate their cultural heritage.  This is something we strive to do at LRD throughout the year by taking the time to get to know each of our students, learning about different cultures and heritages as well as celebrating important events together.

There are a couple of important reminders as we end the first month of school and get ready for the next...

1) Please take a moment to read the newsletter as well as the October Calendar as there are some important and exciting events happening.

2) We are already getting lots of lost uniform items for students - please remember to label ALL of your child's belongings so we can ensure they get returned to the correct person.

3) As the year is continuing, we know that many families like to send treats for their child's birthday or for special events, such as Halloween.   Please remember that if you decide to send something for your child to share in the class, it needs to be store bought and individually packaged as we do not have the supplies or time to cut cakes, serve ice cream etc.....   Even better, is if you send a special treat (pencil, stickers etc) that students can take home in honor of celebrating your child's birthday or a healthy snack (frozen yogurt tubes, cheese strings etc).  Thank you for helping us as we encourage healthy eating and lots of learning:)

4) We are looking for some additional volunteers to help Grade 2 at the school on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.  If you have your police clearance and are able to help with any of the following classes in the morning, please contact the teacher by Monday to let them know you can come.  Thank you for your support.

Tuesday AM - Mr. Engel needs 1 volunteer

Wednesday AM - Mrs. Tudjan needs 1, Mrs. Coulling needs 1, Ms. B needs 4

5) As fieldtrips continue to be booked and planned, please ensure you have paid ALL fieldtrip fees associated with your child's grade.  All fees can be found on your CBE PowerSchool Account and should be paid already.  Thank you.

6) School Council is promoting their annual cheque writing campaign.  Please see the attached information for all the details and we thank you in advance for your generosity.

We hope you all have a great long weekend and we look forward to seeing our students back on Monday in formal uniform!

Sincerely,
