October 2024 Newsletter
Principal’s Message
It is hard to believe the first month of school is already done!!
It has been a very busy month with lots of exciting events already happening. We were able to have our first fire drill which was done very successfully as well as our first lockdown practice which was also done with excellence and supervised by CPS. We would also like to thank Le Roi Daniels School Council for their generosity by providing healthy snacks for all students and teachers following the Terry Fox Run where we raised over $1200.00. What a great first month!
We are getting ready to have our first field trips, both in-school and offsite during October and there are many more coming in future months. Thank you so much to the many volunteers who have offered to support our teachers and students in these amazing opportunities. We know many parents have sent their driver’s license to begin the police clearance process and are anxiously awaiting to hear back from the police. Once you get your clearance from CPS, please be sure to send a copy to the school so we can add your name to our volunteer database for field trip help. Reminder to please be sure to go to your CBE PowerSchool Account and pay all fieldtrip fees found on your child’s account. These fees need to be paid by mid-October to ensure that all field trips can occur and be confirmed early with the vendors.
Although the weather has been amazing is looking the same in the near future, we know that as we continue to head into the Fall, the weather will become colder. Please remember to ensure your children have the appropriate clothing for the outdoors. We encourage our students to enjoy the great outdoors, explore the beautiful colours, and get some great exercise during PE and lunch recess. Please make sure ALL clothing is labeled with your child’s name.
As this is the month of Thanksgiving, I would like personally thank each one of you for choosing Le Roi Daniels as your school. I appreciate the commitment you have for us and to your child’s education and supporting us during the school start up. I look forward to getting to know you, working with you and building a strong school community. I wish you an amazing Thanksgiving weekend! I hope you can spend time with family and friends, remembering and appreciating all we have to be thankful for in our family, our school, our community, our country and our world.
As always, we as an administrative team, strive to be responsive to the needs and concerns of all students and parents and encourage you to contact the school if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Andrea Taylor

Transportation Updates
As parents, we want to encourage you to do your part to help with transportation. Please be sure to be at your stop EARLY for both drop off and pickup as the drivers need to leave on-time to get students to the next stop or to school on time. We also want to make sure everyone is safe, which means parents need to park AWAY from the bus zones (even if not marked – you know where the buses stop!) to ensure students have access to sidewalks and the buses are not blocking traffic. Le Roi Daniels and TLC want to be the model students and families so please help us be ensuring we are doing our best for student safety. We would also ask that you please remind your students to ALWAYS sit in their assigned seats and to not stand or move while on the bus.
Likewise, if you are dropping off and picking up your children from the school, please be sure to arrive early (all students should be at school by 7:55 at the latest) and please remember to follow all the rules of the road to ensure that everyone is safe. Thank you for helping us teach and model expected behaviours on the road.
Happy Halloween
ALL students, including both M/W and T/Th Kindergarten classes will be attending school on Thursday, October 31 for our Halloween Parade. Students are invited and encouraged to wear their costumes on that day. Students should arrive in costume as we do not have the space or time to allow students to change at school. We would like to remind you that costumes should be age appropriate and modest, without any scary/bloody masks, and no weapons. There will be more information about this in the coming weeks so please be sure to watch the Friday messages for details.
Photo Retakes
All students who were present on Sept 16th/17th should have received their photo proofs during the last week of September. Please be sure to order your prints online if interested. Parents who are requesting retakes, including students who were absent, need to email the child’s teacher to request a retake.
Retake photos will be done on October 21st/22nd (for T/Th Kindergarten). If the teacher does not receive an email, unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate the retake request from students only. Thank you for helping in this situation.
Parent – Teacher Conferences
We will be hosting our Parent – Teacher Conferences in person at the school on Oct 24 (3:30 -8:00pm) and Oct 25 (10:00 -12:00). Please watch later this month for details about this process and how to register for a time to connect with your child’s teacher.
VOLUNTEER of the MONTH
As we did not have any parent volunteers during the month of September, we will draw 2 names at the end of October to receive a movie pass as a thank you.
Character Education
This month, we are focusing on the important character trait of RESPONSIBILITY! In school, responsibility means being on time, taking care of our materials, and following classroom rules. During outside play, it looks like sharing equipment, keeping our hands to ourselves and staying within our play areas. At home, it can involve helping with chores and remembering to complete homework. Parents can support their children by encouraging them to take on small tasks at home, and celebrating their efforts to be responsible. This vital trait helps children build trust, become more independent, and learn the importance of being accountable for their actions. Together, we can help our students grow into responsible individuals!
Truth and Reconciliation Commitment
The Spirit-To-Be Domain emphasizes the importance of honoring the learning spirits of students by intentionally developing their gifts, capabilities, and strengths within and beyond the school environment. Key attributes such as recognizing and fostering everyone's unique identity, embracing cultural pride through meaningful observances, and responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action form the foundation for bringing this domain to life. At Le Roi Daniels, students and staff demonstrate the "Spirit To Be" by reflecting on and journaling how they embody love, kindness, respect, and accountability, fostering a sense of belonging, hope, peace, and purpose, as shared by Cree/Metis Elder Kerrie Moore, who teaches that these virtues live in spirit and connect us to everything around us.
October 2024 Cultural Celebrations
THANKSGIVING (October 14) – Thanksgiving Day is an annual Canadian holiday, held on the second Monday in October. It celebrates the harvest and other blessings of the past year. Discussing what people are thankful for, spending time with family, and sharing delicious meals are ways in which this holiday is celebrated.
School Council News
Hello Parents!
Hope you have all enjoyed the first month of school getting yourselves and children back into routines.
We had our first Parent Council meeting on September 17th and it was great to plan for this upcoming year. Thank you to all who attended this meeting. Our next Council meeting will be held in-person on October 15th @ 6:30pm at Le Roi Daniels in the Learning Commons. We hope to see more parents at our next meeting as parent(s) participation is the key to the success of Parent Council. This is a great way to connect with other parents and learn about the activities that are happening throughout the school.
Again this year, we will be fundraising for Le Roi Daniels through a cheque writing campaign. This campaign will run from October 1-15th. All the proceeds raised stay in the Le Roi Daniels School community, which allow for fun activities for our children. More information will be coming home with your children regarding this fundraiser.
Upcoming events:
- Fun Lunch: Wednesday October 23rd, featuring A&W which is posted on Healthy Hunger (healthyqhunger.ca). Please note that Kindergarten students attending on Tuesdays and Thursdays should not order.
- Family Movie Night: November 7th (more details to follow).
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you at our next council meeting.
