Principals Message

It is hard to believe the first month of school is already done!!

Transportation Updates:

We would like to thank you for our on-going patience as First Student and CBE Transportation continue to work together to ensure we have enough drivers and buses arriving on time.   As parents, we want to encourage you to also do your part to help with transportation. Please be sure to be at your stop EARLY for both drop off and pickup as the drivers need to leave on-time to get students to the next stop or to school on time.   We also want to make sure everyone is safe, which means parents need to park AWAY from the bus zones (even if not marked – you know where the buses stop!) to ensure students have access to sidewalks and the buses are not blocking traffic.   Le Roi Daniels and TLC want to be the model students and families so please help us be ensuring we are doing our best for student safety.

Likewise, if you are dropping off and picking up your children from the school, please be sure to arrive early (all students should be at school by 7:55 at the latest) and please remember to follow all the rules of the road to ensure that everyone is safe.   Thank you for helping us teach and model expected behaviours on the road.

Happy Halloween!!

ALL students, including both M/W and T/Th Kindergarten classes will be attending school on Tuesday October 31 for our Halloween Parade.  Students are invited and encouraged to wear their costumes on that day.   Students should arrive in costume as we do not have the space or time to allow students to change at school.   We would like to remind you that costumes should be age appropriate without any scary/bloody masks, no weapons and modest.   There will be more information about this in the coming weeks so please be sure to watch the Friday messages for details.

Photo Retakes:

All students who were present on Sept 18th /19th  should be receiving their photo proofs soon.  Please be sure to order your prints online if interested.   Parents who are requesting retakes, including for students who were absent, need to email the child’s teacher to request a retake.   Retake photos, will be done on October 23rd /24th  (T/Th Kindergarten).    If the teacher does not receive an email, unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate the retake request from students only.  Thank you for helping in this situation.

Parent - Teacher Conferences

We will be hosting our Parent – Teacher Conferences in person at the school on Oct 19 (evening) and Oct 20 (morning).  Please watch later this month for details about this process and how to register for a time to connect with your child’s teacher.

VOLUNTEER of the Month

Congratulations to Rebecca Garrie who has won 2 movie tickets.  Thank you for your commitment and dedication to volunteering at our school to make it great!

Well Being At LRD

During the fall, students will learn about the amygdala portion of their brains. The amygdala is a small portion of the brain that has a big job of processing our emotions and linking emotions to other brain abilities such as memories, learning and senses. Although the amygdala contributes to disruptive feelings, it also plays a role in learning through rewards and consequences, handling and using memory, and allowing us to remember to do certain things without remembering how we knew them. Example: riding a bike or tying your shoes. The amygdala contributes to our understanding of social communication and emotions.  As a result of the importance of the amygdala, students are learning how to focus on their breathing to become less reactive when they encounter conflict. Focused breathing helps calm the body by slowing the heart rate, lowering blood pressure, and improving focus, thus enabling mindful behavior. Through this calmness, students learn to make thoughtful choices for how to respond thoughtfully.

Truth and Reconciliation Commitment

Le Roi Daniels is learning about demonstrating the “Spirit to Be” domain for our Truth and Reconciliation Commitment this fall. According to the Cree/Metis Elder Kerrie Moore (2021), “Everyone, no matter where you come from, has a way of starting in spirit. Love, kindness, respect, accountability all live in spirit. Being in spirit is an awareness of who you are. This creates a sense of belonging, hope, peace and purpose which connects to everything around us.” The Le Roi Daniels students and staff will be reflecting and journaling how they demonstrate love, kindness, respect, or accountability to create belonging, hope, peace, and   purpose within our community.

October 2023 Cultural Celebrations

THANKSGIVING (October 9) – Thanksgiving Day is an annual Canadian holiday, held on the second Monday in October. It celebrates the harvest and other blessings of the past year. Discussing what people are thankful for, spending time with family, and sharing delicious meals are ways in which this holiday is celebrated.

Character Education

Instilling a sense of responsibility in our students is fundamental to their development here at Le Roi Daniels School. Responsibility goes beyond academic achievements; it encompasses values, ethics, and a commitment to contributing positively to their school community and beyond. Through a combination of classroom activities, extracurricular involvement such as choir and intramurals, and collaborative projects, we aim to nurture a strong sense of accountability in our students. We encourage them to take ownership of their learning, respect their peers and teachers, and actively engage in helping their communities. By doing so, we hope to empower our students to become responsible and compassionate individuals who will make meaningful contributions to society.

School Council News

Hello Parents!

Hope you have all enjoyed the first month of school getting yourselves and children back into routines. We had our first Parent Council meeting on September 19th and it was great to discuss plans for this upcoming school year. Our next Parent Council meeting will be held online on October 24th @ 6:30pm, so please watch for Mrs. Taylor’s emails to be added to the meeting link. We hope to see more parents at our next online meeting. Again this year, we will be fundraising for Le Roi Daniels through a cheque writing campaign. This campaign will run the entire month of October (October 1-31). Please watch your Friday updates with more information for this campaign. If you have not done so, please sign up for the casino event that is on November 13th & 14th. This is an amazing opportunity for our school.
