News from the School
Remembrance Day Assembly:
November is a time to remember: remember those that believed in the greatness of our country and fought for us, died for us and ultimately allowed us to have life, successful futures, and freedom. We will be honoring those who gave their lives for our freedom in a special Remembrance Day Assembly on November 8, 2023 @ 10:30am and hope that our students reflect on what these men and women of great character stood for and the attributes and traits that can help us all. The Grade 1’s in rooms 10, 13 & 20 are hosting this special day and ALL students are required to be in FORMAL UNIFORM for this assembly even though it is a Wednesday. If your child is a member of Brownies, Guides, Scouts or Cadets, they are invited to wear their uniforms on this day. We are also inviting parents to attend this Remembrance Day assembly. Please arrive to the school by 10:15am as the doors will be closed and locked at 10:30 as all staff participate in this important assembly and we will be unable to answer the door or phone during this time.
VOLUNTEER of the MONTH :
Congratulations to Saurabh Goyal who has won 2 movie tickets. Thank you for your commitment and dedication to volunteering at our school to make it great!
Celebration Day:
Diwali is a great cultural celebration that many of our families participate in and we would like to honor those children who celebrate this holiday. If your family specifically celebrates Diwali, those students are invited to wear their FORMAL DIWALI celebration clothing on Wednesday November 15, 2023 instead of their uniform. We will call those students down to the library for a special photo for our year book.
If your family does not celebrate Diwali, you are expected to still be in uniform – this is not a casual day.
Character Education
For the month of November, we are focusing on the character trait of EMPATHY. Empathy is a skill that not only fosters positive social interactions but also promotes emotional intelligence and compassion. In our classrooms, children will engage in activities, lessons, group discussions and story-telling that encourage them to understand and share the feelings of others. It is important that children and adults learn to see the world from different perspectives, thereby building the foundation for strong, empathetic relationships. By instilling empathy from an early age, we aim to empower our students to be kind, understanding, considerate individuals who can make a positive impact in their communities and the world. Together, we can help our children become more caring and thoughtful citizens. How can you and your family show empathy this month? Perhaps you can volunteer at a local food bank or reach out to your neighbour? Being empathetic helps us focus on others. When we stand alongside others and support them, we can change the world!

Truth and Reconciliation Commitment
During September and October, students demonstrated the ”Spirit-To Be” domain from the CBE Indigenous Education Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework for our Truth and Reconciliation Commitment by showing love, kindness, and respect within the school community. As we move from fall into winter, staff and students will enter the ”Heart-To Belong” domain. Through learning and exploring the domain, Le Roi Daniels will reflect and demonstrate how each of us creates a sense of belonging and how we build healthy relationships to develop a kind, respectful, welcoming community.
November 2023 Cultural Celebrations
Remembrance Day (November 11) – Every year on the 11th hour, of the 11th month, of the 11th day we remember the people in the armed forces who fought and died in battle for the freedom we have today. This is called Remembrance Day. It also marks the day that World War I ended in 1918.
DIWALI (November 12) – A popular Hindu festival that is celebrated for five continuous days and is known as the Festival of Lights. Diwali, which for some also coincides with harvest and new year celebrations, is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil, and light over darkness.
