Welcome to the New School Year

School News

Lunch Room:

Over the past few years, we have heard from parents and lunch supervisors that students do not have enough time to eat their lunch and are throwing LOTS of their lunch out!   As done in previous years, we are asking for students to bring home EVERYTHING that is brought to school for their snack and lunch.  This will help you as parents to see what your child has eaten that day as well as support the City of Calgary Green Bin Program by allowing you as a family to sort through the recycling and composting items.   Obviously we do not want to make a mess in your child’s lunchkit so we are asking for you to send either a reusable Tupperware container or ziplock bag for your child to put all their garbage/ recycling in and bring home.  Thank you for helping our school and our environment J

Please be sure to have your child’s snack in a SEPARATE container within their lunchkit as it will be stored in their desk to nibble on while working in the classroom throughout the morning.

Respect Character Trait

During the month of September, students will participate in class discussions and activities to learn about the meaning of respect and how to show respect for themselves, their classmates, our school, family and friends, our city and more! Respect is a fundamental aspect of human interaction that embodies consideration, admiration and acknowledgement for the feelings, beliefs, rights and boundaries of oneself and others.  We can show respect by treating others with dignity and valuing their perspectives, even when they are different from our own.  Respect helps to promote a harmonious atmosphere by fostering open communication, empathy and tolerance for each other. It goes beyond being polite; recognizing the inherent worth of every person.  Through respect, we can cultivate positive relationships, foster understanding and contribute to a more inclusive and compassionate society.

Parent Communication

Parents must subscribe to continue receiving certain school messages

Due to federal legislation (Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation, or CASL), parents/guardians need to subscribe online at cbe.ab.ca/subscribe if they want to continue receiving "commercial electronic messages" from our school and the CBE. These include messages that encourage participation in a commercial activity such as buying, selling, donating, trading and paying fees. Examples include messages about school fees, field trip costs, book sales, picture days, fundraisers, school merchandise, cafeteria prices and more.

Starting on Sept 1,2021 , any school or CBE messages that are considered commercial under CASL must be sent through SchoolMessenger (our new mass communication tool) and marked as commercial so they only go to parents who have subscribed.

Regardless of whether you have subscribed, all parents will continue to receive non-commercial emails on topics such as student absences, parent-teacher conferences and class projects.

Student Communication Folders, websites, phone calls, meeting times, notes  and EMAILS home are just some of the ways we as a school will be communicating with parents.

Progressive Student Discipline:

This is a whole school approach that follows and supports the CBE Student Code of Conduct and utilizes a continuum of intervention, supports, and consequences to address inappropriate and unacceptable student behaviour and builds upon strategies that promote positive behaviours contributing to a welcoming , caring, respectful and safe learning environment.

Calgary Board of Education’s Student Code of Conduct

•Students have a responsibility to not participate in or tolerate bullying and to report instances of bullying

•Parents have a responsibility to ensure their child’s conduct contributes to a welcoming, caring, safe and respectful learning environment

•Schools have a responsibility to assess and where warranted investigate and respond to all reports of bullying

Terry Fox Run

We are very excited about our Terry Fox run this year, which will be held on Friday September 15.    Please watch in the next week for some important information regarding this special school wide initiative and fundraising for our community outreach.

Fees

We know many of you are anxious to pay your transportation, lunchroom and school field trip fees, however some have not yet been posted.  Transportation fees and noon supervision fees are not yet posted.   School fieldtrip fees will be posted shortly as we are already participating in some trips and events this month.  We will let you know when those are ready for payment.  All payments should be completed online and all field trips should be paid for in September for the year. If you are experiencing difficulty, please contact our administrative secretaries and they will be able to help you.

Parent Online Meeting

You should have received a welcome back package with many forms at our Ice Cream Social.  Please be sure to keep the front pink sheet at home as you will need to use this email and password to enter the virtual teacher meeting on September 7.   There is a session online at 6pm and a second repeated session at 6:30.   It is very important that a least 1 parent logs into this meeting and if you have more than 1 child, please use the second session to visit the other teacher.

Welcome back package forms

Please be sure to complete, sign and return all forms that you received at the ice cream social by Tuesday September 5th, as well as the 3 forms that need to be completed online in your PowerSchool CBE account.  Thank you for ensuring all forms are returned on time.
