Principal’s Message
Spring looks like it has arrived and the weather is becoming more and more warm and inviting.
April was a busy month, which included many cultural celebrations, lots of learning in the classrooms and of course the amazing Lion King performance done by all of our students.
With all of the changes taking place, we, at the school, are also working on our planning for next year (2024/25). Please help us by letting us know if you are planning on moving schools or changing programs so we can plan accordingly for our staffing and class configurations.
As you are planning your travel adventures for the summer, we want to remind you that school begins on August 29th . Please ensure that you return from all holidays prior to the start of school as it is a crucial time for both you and your children to become familiar with expectations and be ready to start the year successfully. In the extreme circumstance that you will not be at school for the first day of classes, you will need to discuss this absence with Mrs. Taylor. Students who have not attended school by September 3rd , and have not discussed the absence with Mrs. Taylor, will be removed from our school roster and your child’s spot will be given to someone on the waitlist. Please do everything possible to ensure you plan for the first day of classes – August 29th. We appreciate your help with this process and look forward to another successful year at Le Roi Daniels.
May is a very busy month with many, many field trips in all grades happening. Please be sure to watch your calendar, regularly check your child’s Google Classroom, and watch for permission forms that are coming home! If you are interested in volunteering for any of these events, please make sure you have completed your CBE Police Clearance ASAP, you can call the office to confirm if you do or do not already have clearance.
As always, we as an administrative team, strive to be responsive to the needs and concerns of all students and parents and encourage you to contact the school if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Andrea Taylor

News from the School
Wear a Hat for Mental Health Day – May 8
Students are invited to wear a hat on Wednesday May 8 to recognize and support Mental Health in our schools. Students will still be required to wear uniforms this day with the addition of a hat if they so choose.
Used Uniform Sale
The used uniform sale will be held in the last week of June with specific details coming in June. We are looking for any gently used uniform items for donation before the last week of June. Please check your child’s closet to see what they have outgrown and you are welcome to send them to the school anytime before the uniform sale. ALL PROCEEDS from this sale go to School Council to help pay for fieldtrip buses, special school events and resources purchased from council for our students. We are looking for:
· GREEN TLC cardigans
· GREEN TLC vests
· Navy dress pants (this means they are loose around the legs – no joggers, sweatpants and NO LEGGINGS)
· Tartan Tie
· TLC golf shirts (must have the TLC logo)
· Tartan Dresses (dresses should be down to the knees or longer so please check the length of your child’s dress)
We are not accepting white dress shirts, blue skirts or shorts and no navy dresses as navy dresses are not part of the uniform and should not be worn to school.
VOLUNTEER of the MONTH
Congratulations to Priyanka Nahal who won movie tickets. Thank you for your commitment and dedication to volunteering at our school to make it great!
BUS DRIVER APPRECIATION
We are very thankful to have our buses and the drivers who bring our students to school each day. On Monday May 6th, it is Bus Driver Appreciation day so please remind your children to say thank you and show their appreciation for the work that our drivers do to get everyone to and from school safely.
Truth and Reconciliation Commitment
As we enter May, we also move north into the final domain of Mind-To Know of the Indigenous Education Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework. All students learn to value and influence a balanced, holistic, lifelong learning experience within the domain. The Mind-To Know domain is also known as the intellectual domain. (Calgary Board of Education, Indigenous Education Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework, p. 15).
The following key attributes are possible entry points for schools and individuals to bring to life the Mind Domain: Holistic & Lifelong, Mastery, Confidence, Purpose, and Accountability & Leadership. Incorporating these attributes in our daily learning allows students and staff to engage the mind and activate the spirit, heart, and body.
Character Education – Fairness
This month, we are focusing on the character trait of FAIRNESS. Fairness is the cornerstone of integrity and empathy, which is an essential value we aim to instill in our students from a young age. In the context of our school community, fairness means treating others with kindness, respect, and equality. Teaching fairness to students involves fostering a deep understanding of empathy and being respectful of our peer’s beliefs and perspectives, even if they are different from our own. Through interactive activities, discussions, and role-playing, we encourage our young learners to recognize and appreciate fairness in action, whether it's taking turns during recess, sharing resources, or resolving conflicts peacefully. By integrating fairness into everyday learning and daily interactions, we can empower our students to become compassionate individuals who contribute positively to not only our school community, but their families and the city of Calgary! Let’s be known for our fairness here at Le Roi Daniels School!
