Principal’s Message
Here it is, March already! Let’s hope that spring is right around the corner and the warm weather is here to stay.
It is hard to believe that we are beginning the planning processes for next year already and we need your help. If you are not planning on returning to Le Roi Daniels for next school year (2025/26) for any reason, please let the school know by April 17 so we can plan accordingly for our school as well as the new school you will be attending. Thank you for your help!
We would also like to make you aware of the start date for school next year.It is after the September long weekend with school starting on Tuesday, September 2. However, we will have our annual Ice Cream Social on Friday, August 29 [time TBD]. This is an opportunity for you and your children to come to the school, meet your teacher, find your classroom and see some of your friends before school starts. School starts for all students on Tuesday, Sept 2 at 8am. Please be sure to plan your summer holidays accordingly to ensure students don’t miss these dates. Please note that due to changes in registration processes, students must be present at school on September 2, 2025 to ensure they maintain their spot at Le Roi Daniels School. Students who have not attended class on September 2, may have their spot filled by another student on the waitlist. PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND BE SURE HOLIDAYS END PRIOR TO September 2, 2025.
As we look forward to spring coming and the weather continues to be beautiful and warm, I would like to remind you to take extra caution when driving and walking around the school. Students are excited to be playing and running in the sun and may not always be aware of their surroundings, especially before and after school. As drivers, it is important that we demonstrate extra safety precautions in the area, including driving the loop around the school instead of doing U-Turns. We are asking you to please not do U-turns on any of the streets adjacent to the school for safety reasons, please follow the loop around the building to keep traffic flowing and everyone aware of what you are doing. Safety of your children is our priority!
Finally, we will be having Student-led Conferences on March 20 between 4 -8pm. There are no report cards going home at this time, however, this is a chance for your child to showcase their learning while taking you on a tour of the school. Parents will have the opportunity to schedule their conference between March 10-19 through MyCBE account. These conferences will take 45-60minutes so please be sure to book your times to share in your child’s learning. These conferences are IN-PERSON and there will be no virtual conferences at this time. All parents will have the opportunity to connect with the teacher for a few minutes, however this is not a private conversation. In the event that a teacher needs to speak with you privately, they will connect with you to book a 1:1 appointment on Friday March 21. If you have a specific concern and need to talk privately with a teacher, please email them so they can connect with you.
As always, we as an administrative team, strive to be responsive to the needs and concerns of all students and parents and encourage you to contact the school if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Andrea Taylor
Principal

Character Education
As we focus on the character trait of independence in March, we encourage students to practice taking initiative and responsibility in all areas of their lives. At school, this means students are learning to complete tasks on their own; such as organizing their materials, following through on assignments, and managing their time during lessons. During recess, children can show independence by making their own choices for games, interacting with peers, and resolving conflicts. At home, students are becoming more confident in taking care of their personal belongings, getting dressed, or helping with simple chores. In the community, children may demonstrate independence by making decisions about what activities to participate in or helping others. Fostering independence in children is important because it builds self-confidence, encourages problem-solving, and prepares them for future challenges. Parents can support this growth by giving children opportunities to make choices, offering gentle guidance without taking over, and celebrating their successes, no matter how small. This helps children develop a strong sense of self-reliance, which will benefit them throughout their lives.
Truth and Reconciliation Commitment
As we enter March, we continue our journey westward through the Indigenous Education Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework, entering the Body-To-Do domain. This domain highlights the importance of holistic well-being in student learning, emphasizing that physical health, mental wellness, and emotional balance are foundational to academic success.
Within the Body-To-Do domain, learning is connected to the physical space in which it occurs. When students engage in learning from, on, and within their environment, they activate their entire being—spirit, heart, body, and mind—in the learning process. By grounding learning in physical experiences, students develop a deeper, more embodied understanding of concepts through active participation.
Connecting student learning to land and place allows learners to engage with their surroundings through multiple senses—they touch, listen, watch, and smell, fostering a renewed sense of awareness and understanding. This holistic approach creates a peaceful, calming atmosphere that nurtures curiosity, engagement, and well-being. Learning through physical interaction with the environment enhances comprehension. It strengthens students' relationships with the land, fostering respect, responsibility, and a sense of belonging within their learning spaces.

School Council News
Hello Parents!
We had our February Parents Council meeting on February 18, 2025, online. Thank you to all who attended this meeting. I apologize for mixing up the February Council meeting dates in the February Newsletter and in the February Parents Council meeting agenda. Our next Council meeting will be held online on April 15, 2025 @ 6:30pm. If you wish to attend this meeting, please email adtaylor@cbe.ab.ca. There is no Parents Council meeting in March. We hope to see more parent engagement at our next meeting as parent(s) participation is the key to the success of the Parent Council. This is a great way to connect with other parents and learn about the activities that are happening throughout the school.
Upcoming events:
- Fun Lunch: Thursday March 20, featuring A&W which is posted on Healthy Hunger (healthyhunger.ca). Please note that Kindergarten students attending on Monday/Wednesday should not order. As a reminder, please be sure to read the ingredients on Healthy Hunger to ensure it meets your child’s dietary restrictions prior to ordering.
- Family Dance Night: We are sorry to let you know that due to CUPE strike, we had to cancel our Family Dance Night. If you bought the tickets and snacks through Healthy Hunger, you will receive a credit to your account that you can spend in the future. We do not have any plans to reschedule this event yet. We will discuss this in our next Parents Council meeting in April.
