LRD shows GENEROSITY!

Throughout the month of December, LRD students will discover what it means to be generous and have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities to show generosity.

Generosity is a heartwarming virtue that holds the power to transform the lives of children, families and communities! It extends beyond the simple act of giving; it encompasses a spirit of compassion, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Generosity can manifest in various forms, such as the selfless contributions of resources, time and talents to investing in a supportive community to foster a sense of belonging and security.  Generosity instills valuable lessons in children; teaching them the importance of kindness and interconnectedness. Whether it's through donating to those in need, volunteering at events, or offering emotional support, generosity becomes a cornerstone in building a foundation for a thriving and harmonious school community, where families and children flourish together.

The Kindergarten classes have created some amazing ways for all of our students to learn and participate in the spirit of generosity.  We are hoping that all of our families will be able to help support this important character virtue in some capacity throughout the month of December.  Please take a look to see the many ways that students are showing generosity to those around us.

  1. Kindergarten and Grade 1 students are creating some beautiful artwork that will be posted throughout the gym during movie night, carol singing and outside during pick up times.  If you would like to take a piece of artwork, they have created them to provide joy and happiness for you.
  2. Kindergarten is making friendship bracelets to give to friends throughout the school.
  3. Grade 2 and 3 are creating festive cards.  Some will be delivered to the Senior’s Center when the Grade 3 choir goes to sing and the rest will be provided to the Ronald McDonald house to brighten someone’s day.
  4. Kindergarten students are building bird feeders to show generosity to the environment.
  5. Gift Drive to the Ronald McDonald House!

The Ronald McDonald House is a non-profit organization that provides housing and support to families when their child is undergoing treatment at the Alberta Children's Hospital. Every year, the Ronald McDonald House creates Santa Sacks to give to families who need to stay at the Ronald McDonald house over the holidays. We are hosting a school wide gift drive from November 27th-December 15th. We will be showing our generosity by collecting NEW items to donate to the Ronald McDonald House for the Christmas season. Attached is the Wish List from Ronald McDonald House, indicating items that they are in need of. Please note that donating is OPTIONAL but it is a great way to have your child understand what generosity means and to give back to our community. There are 2 ways that you can help with our generosity project!

Option 1: Take a look at the wish list (link on the right) and purchase 1 or more items to donate to our drive. Please make sure items are NEW and UNWRAPPED. There are lots of items that can be found at various prices so please donate whatever works for your family! Gifts can be sent to the school any time between November 27th-December 15th.

Option 2: You can donate a cash donation of any value. This could be as much as $2, $5, $10, whatever you are able to donate! Teachers will combine all class donations and go to the store to purchase items on behalf of their classroom to donate to Ronald McDonald house. If you wish to donate money, please send it in by December 8th so that teachers have time to purchase items.

We thank you in advance for supporting our students in learning the value of generosity and for any participation in these activities that you are able to provide.

We look forward to a great month of LRD showing GENEROSITY!!

Sincerely,

Andrea Taylor – Principal @ Le Roi Daniels
