Principal’s Message

Well, this is it – the last month of another amazing school year!

Although this is the last month of the year, there are still many exciting things happening in our school and community. Please be sure to read through the newsletter for all the great events happening in each class.

As we prepare for next school year, there are some important information items that I would like to share with you so you can mark your calendars now and be ready for some great events next year.

We know that many families choose to take extended holidays over the summer as they are travelling great distances to see family and friends. However, if you are planning on going away it is important to plan to be back for the first day of school – SEPTEMBER 2, 2025. If you are returning after Sept 2, you MUST contact the school and speak with administration in the office regarding your time away from school prior to leaving as school begins on September 2nd and students who are missing the first day, may lose their spots at Le Roi Daniels School.

Please be sure to have Sy Yoon and Andrea Taylor added to your email contacts as there will be information coming from the school in late August outlining important information for school start up.  Please check your junk mail as well to ensure that information is not missed.  There is a CBE system- wide communication tool that you MUST sign up for in order to receive any communication from the school.  For those families who are new to the CBE, please go to the Le Roi Daniels webpage https://leroidaniels.cbe.ab.ca/ and click on the box that says SUBSCRIBE TO SCHOOL NEWS – be sure to register for Commercial emails.  Please watch your emails!

We know the summer can be full of changes, so if you decide over the summer that you will not be attending Le Roi Daniels or if you move, please be sure to email the school right away so we can ensure that your child is registered at the correct school.

Finally, as we say good bye to our Grade 3 students, we would like to wish them the best as they head into a new school.  We will miss you and wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

As always, we as an administrative team, strive to be responsive to the needs and concerns of all students and parents and encourage you to contact the school if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Andrea Taylor

Principal

News from the School

SAVE the DATE:  ICE CREAM SOCIAL

We are going to continue with our annual social event for this upcoming school year so please mark your calendars now.   We are going to have a WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL ICE CREAM SOCIAL on Wednesday August 27 between 11:30 AM -12:30 PM.

We know that this is still technically part of the summer holidays but we are hoping to have most of our families come to meet their child’s teacher, find their entrance doors, meet some new friends, and have some ice cream before enjoying the last bit of summer holidays.

UNIFORM SALE

As we begin to get ready for next year and notice how much the children have grown over the past year, we want to share with you a couple of different uniform choices.

First of all, for all those families who are currently in Le Roi Daniels and have outgrown their uniform items or for those moving over to Fairview (uniform color change) who want to clean out their closets… we will be collecting gently used uniform items (sweaters, vests, tunics, ties, and golf shirts with TLC logo) to sell at our used uniform sale here at the school on Monday June 23rd at 2:15pm. All donations must be washed and given to the school by June 20st. These uniform items are donated to the school sale and the funds raised go towards School Council to benefit all of our students through school presentations, fieldtrip buses and special events.  Thank you to all those who have generously donated their items in the past!

Uniforms are a key part of the TLC program and there are new processes for ordering – please refer to the information sent to you on May 17 or check the Le Roi Daniels website for uniform details and expectations – thank you.

The last day for uniforms is Monday June 16!  Students will be able to wear casual clothing for the remainder of school - June 18 - 27.

SPORTS DAY

We are looking forward to having Sports Day this year on Friday June 20! Both Kindergarten groups (M/W and T/Th) will attend this day.

As we are hoping for the weather to cooperate and we are able to enjoy some time outside for this fun event, we want to also remind you to please send your child ready for the great outdoors.  Please sunscreen and bug-spray them BEFORE they come to school, send a hat for them and outdoor running shoes to ensure they are ready for a fun day.  School Council has generously purchased a freezie for each of the students to have a special treat for this day as well – THANK YOU School Council!

GRADE 3 FAREWELL

We are excited to celebrate with our Grade 3 students as they are leaving LRD and heading off to a new school for next year.  Parents are invited to attend a special Grade 3 assembly on Monday June 16th at 12:45 pm to share in this celebration.  If you are able to attend, please plan to be here by 12:30 as we anticipate many families and we want to make sure we can start on time. The Grade 1 choir will also be performing during this farewell assembly.

VOLUNTEER of the MONTH :

Congratulations to Swapna Sama who has won 2 movie tickets.  Thank you for your commitment and dedication to volunteering at our school to make it great!

Truth and Reconciliation Commitment

Over the course of the school year, the Le Roi Daniels School community—students and staff alike—engaged in an ongoing journey to explore and understand the Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework in a meaningful and personal way. As part of this learning process, they took time to thoughtfully consider the purpose and significance of each of the framework’s domains. Students and staff were encouraged to think deeply about how the qualities within each domain were reflected in their own experiences, both at school and beyond.

Using a combination of visual art and written expression, students illustrated how they embodied the values and characteristics within the framework’s domains. These personal reflections were then collected and organized in their Power Books, serving as a growing portfolio of learning and self-awareness. Staff members, meanwhile, created their own versions of the Framework that were proudly displayed on a central wall in the school, making their learning visible and contributing to a shared culture of reflection.

These thoughtful conversations, visual representations, and written reflections helped to nurture a school-wide connection to the Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework. The process not only deepened individual understanding but also fostered a collective sense of identity and purpose, as students and staff came to see the framework not just as a set of abstract ideas, but as a meaningful guide for personal growth, well-being, and community engagement.

Character Education - Patience

As we wrap up the school year, our Character Education focus for the month of June is PATIENCE. Patience is an essential skill that helps children manage their emotions, handle frustration, and build stronger relationships with others. At school, children practice patience when they wait their turn in line, listen to others without interrupting, or wait for a friend to finish a task before they can play together. At home, patience might look like waiting for dinner to be ready or waiting for their turn to choose a movie or game. In extra-curricular activities, patience is demonstrated when kids wait for their chance to perform in a dance recital or cheer for a teammate who is taking a turn. Developing patience teaches children the importance of perseverance and self-control, helping them remain calm and focused even when things don’t go as planned. By fostering patience in our children, we are setting them up for success in school, at home, and in their future endeavors.

June Cultural Celebration

Shavuot (June 1 - 3) – This is a Jewish holiday that has double significance. It marks the all-important wheat harvest in Israel and commemorates the anniversary of the day when God gave the Torah to the nation of Israel assembled at Mount Sinai. https://www.diversitybestpractices.com/2021-diversity-holidays#may

Eid al-Adha (June 7 - 8) - Eid al-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice is the second and the larger of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam. It honours the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to God's command.
