April 2025 Newsletter

Principal’s Message

Welcome to April and to SPRING! We trust that everyone had a great break and enjoyed some time with family and friends over the holidays.

April is a busy month with many cultural and religious celebrations as well as many field trips and activities happening at the school.

We are also continuing to work on our planning for next year (2025/26).  Please help us by letting us know if you are planning on moving schools or changing programs so we can plan accordingly for our staffing and class configurations.  We appreciate your help with this process and look forward to another successful year at Le Roi Daniels.

As always, we as an administrative team, strive to be responsive to the needs and concerns of all students and parents and encourage you to contact the school if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Andrea Taylor

Principal

Volunteer of the Month

Congratulations to Prethista Vivekandan who won movie tickets.  Thank you for your commitment and dedication to volunteering at our school to make it great!

Cultural Celebrations

As we honor many cultural and religious holidays throughout the year, we know that many families are celebrating Easter, Vaishaki, or Eid this month.

We want to invite students to wear their formal celebratory clothing for EID and the conclusion of Ramadan on Monday March 31 (first day back from Spring Break)  This is NOT a casual day and students who do not formally celebrate Eid will still be required to wear uniforms.

Likewise, we also want to invite those families who formally celebrate Vaisakhi, to wear their formal celebratory clothing on Monday April 14. This is NOT a casual day and students who do not formally celebrate Vaishaki will still be required to wear uniforms.

We also want to invite students to wear their formal Easter clothing this month. If your family formally celebrates Easter as part of your religion, students are invited to wear their FORMAL EASTER SUNDAY Church attire on Thursday April 17. Students who do not celebrate Easter will be expected to wear uniform as usual.

Character Education

For the month of April, we are focusing on the character trait of KINDNESS. Kindness is an important character trait that helps everyone feel happy and safe, and makes our school a wonderful place to learn and grow. When we show kindness, we are being respectful and caring towards others, and this makes our community stronger. At school, kindness can be seen when we help a friend who has dropped their books, when we listen to someone’s ideas, or when we cheer on a classmate during a game. At home, kindness can be shown when we help our family members with chores, use polite words, or give hugs when someone is feeling sad. In our communities and on sports teams, kindness is shown when we cheer for others, support those who need help, and include everyone no matter their abilities. Kindness is not only about being nice, but it also helps build our character and integrity; teaching us to be responsible, thoughtful, and respectful. When we are kind, we help our school community thrive by creating a positive and caring environment where everyone feels valued.

Truth and Reconciliation Commitment

April welcomes Earth Day as a cornerstone of our Body-To Do domain, marking a significant springtime celebration that highlights the importance of environmental stewardship. This annual event provides students with meaningful opportunities to deepen their understanding of conservation and sustainability while fostering a connection to the natural world.

Through land-based education, students are provided opportunities to explore, discover, and interact with the environment. These activities go beyond traditional classroom instruction, encouraging students to actively engage with the land in ways that naturally encourages curiosity, appreciation, and respect for nature.  By incorporating sensory experiences—feeling the soil, listening to the rustling leaves, observing wildlife, and inhaling the fresh scents of nature—students form a deeper connection to their surroundings. These direct interactions reinforce the significance of sustainability and encourage students to integrate environmental awareness into their daily lives. Through these immersive experiences, Earth Day becomes more than just a one-day event; it serves as a catalyst for lifelong stewardship and a commitment to caring for the planet.
